We have had a fun last week.  A huge thank you to Viktor's mom for giving us dance lessons every day this week.  We really enjoyed your lessons; they were lots of fun and we all learned a cool hip hop dance.  Another big thank you to Ian, Grace, Lily and Elika's mom's for all their hard work on our memory books. These books are lots of work but something that we hope you will treasure forever.

Congratulations to all of you - you have officially finished GRADE ONE!  Good work boys and girls, thank you for a great year.  Thanks also to all of you parents for your support; education really is teamwork between child, parents and teachers.

June 22/12

This is our last Friday of grade one!  I am bringing home my Literacy Folder today and I do not need to return it on Monday.  Please return all classroom books including JRR.  Today I also brought home several of my work duotangs, any work that is not completed can be done over the summer.  On Thursday I brought home books that we did not use this year so that I can keep them for next year.

Mercer (Ms Rowledge-Toscani's dog) came to our class on Thursday.

We now know the three primary colours - red, yellow and blue.  Secondary Colours are purple, green, orange  - they are made from primary colours.

Elika and Lily's mom came and helped us to make hand and foot prints for our memory books.  Grace's mom treated us to freezies on Thursday.  They tasted great and cold!  Thank you!

Talent Show, please see last blog for the schedule.

We made bugs with our big buddies that look great on our class tree.

Our year end class celebration will be on Thursday, everyone is welcome to bring a juice box that day.  Thanks in advance to the following for providing the snacks.  Viktor - fruit tray, Michaela - veggie tray, Elika - cheese crackers, sandwiches or wraps,  Kendra - goodies, Edona - anything??

Hard to believe but next week will be our last week of Grade One!

Hope you all have a great Father's Day and like the gifts that your children worked so hard on.  They all were very excited to do something special for you.  Enjoy!

June 15/12

Another busy but fun week!  The highlight was definitely our Fun Day on Tuesday.  Thanks to all the parents who helped out and those that came to watch.
We have also been working hard on our Earth Book.  We did a page on the different seasons and how a tree changes for each one.  We learned how dangerous oil spills are for all living creatures, both plants and animals.  The book Oliver and the Oil Spill was a great book and was actually written by a nine year old girl.  We now have her up on our Author's Tree.  Today we learned all about the water cycle.

We started a new rotation of  Reader's Workshop.  The boys and girls also planted bean seeds this week and are hoping they will grow.   In addition we are doing an experiment; we have seeds with no soil, one we planted and will give it no water and one final one that is up in a cupboard that will have water but no light.  We can't wait to see what happens.

A reminder that tomorrow, June 12 is Fairview's 'Fun Day'.  Students should come to school prepared for the weather (although if it is raining heavily it may be rescheduled for Wednesday).  The 'Fun Day' activities will be occurring between 11:00-2:00.  Parent volunteers are welcome!

Thank you!

Here is a message that the Currie family asked us to share with all of you.

Dear Parents, Kids & Staff of Div 9
We are totally overwhelmed by the support of the community and the school in particular during our challenging times of dealing with a house fire.
This is to all of you who donated clothes, toys and money or offered a playdate for my kids at their house (since our hotel room is too small...) or simply gave me a hug!
Please know, that we are tremendously grateful for all this support and that we are very happy that we chose to live in this community.
For those of you who haven't seen it yet, please read our "Thank you" letter in the 'Maple Ridge News' from last Wednesday.
Thank you so much, we really appreciate all your help!
