May 25th

It has been a short but busy week.  We celebrated four birthdays this week;  Grace, Giah and Lily all have July birthdays and Amanda's real birthday was on Wednesday.

If possible please take a picture of your child and their dad and send it to school by June 7th.  Thank you!

We practiced our counting today,  forwards and backwards between 0 and 100.  I need to do this at home as well so I get to be a better counter!  Backwards is pretty tricky so stick to numbers less than 25 to start and as you get better make it harder.  We also talked about how it is important to practice doubles e.g.) 4 + 4, 7 +7.   We also learned how addition and subtractions are like cousins, they are related e.g.) 3 + 3 = 6 and 6 - 3 = 3.  We are learning more strategies for addition and subtraction to make math easier.

We started our new Reader's Workshop; at one centre we get to do a recycling puppet play, another one we are doing a recycling activity on the SmartBoard and the computer, and at the listening station we are listening to Environment songs and poems.

Joanna Cole is the author we are studying this month.  She writes great books and many of them have been made into t.v. shows.  We watched two different Magic School Bus stories, one called 'Play Ball'  which we reviewed force, motion and friction and 'Works Out' which we learned all about our  bodies and it is important to exercise and how our muscles and heart work.   -

This afternoon Mrs. Crooke came to our class and did a special lesson on our Environment and First Nations People.   She read the book Frog Girl to us and then we all made these cool frog hats.
